DESCRIPTION:On November 29th (4-5pm) INESC ID will start a new series of seminars on Security & Privacy in the context of the Security & Privacy Thematic line. The first seminar is titled “Open problems in rollups” se and will have Ben Livshits ( https://www.doc.ic.ac.uk/~livshits/about.htm ), Associate Professor at the Imperial College London, as speaker.\n\n\nIf you’re interested in following these activities, join us here. ( https://mattermost.inesc-id.pt/signup_user_complete/?id=eptffb51ii81mqrak34m991roy&sbr=su )\n\n\nAbstract:\nRollups are a recent blockchain mechanism that allows executing transactions off-chain, providing a tradeoff between performance, security, and privacy. There has been a great deal of growth in Ethereum rollups over the last 6 months alone. This talk will cover some of the bleeding edge issues that remain in rollup design, both from an academic and engineering perspective.\n\n\nBio:\nDr. Ben Livshits is the VP of research at Matter Labs, the maker of the ZKSync rollup on Ethereum. He is also an associate professor at Imperial College London and an affiliate professor at the University of Washington. Previously, he was a research scientist at Microsoft Research. He received a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in 1999, and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University in 2006. Ben’s research interests include application of sophisticated static and dynamic analysis techniques to finding errors in programs. Ben has published papers at PLDI, POPL, Oakland Security, Usenix Security, CCS, SOSP, ICSE, FSE, and many other venues. He is the author of over 100 academic papers, dozens of patents, and multiple tech transfer awards for bringing research into practice.\n\n\n\n \nWhen: Wednesday, November 29th, 4-5 pm\nWhere: INESC Alves Redol Building I Room 9 (Auditorium), Ground Floor\n\n
